Gallery: Kőszeg

Kőszeg is seen as a treasure trove small town in Hungary. Hungary have seen to many wars and these often severely damaged the towns. Kőszeg was in a relatively safe zone in the most fierceful war with Turkey, the Ottoman Empire, and this way several of its 16th and 17th c. buildings could be saved for our times. Not that the Kőszeg was totally immune from Turkish attacts, though. Its famous siege in 1532 ended up in the Turkish army giving up the efforts to take the castle, thanks to its defending heroes like Captain Miklós Jurisics (Nikola Jurišić).
